Meet Nikon Photographer Joe McNally

 

Internationally acclaimed photographer Joe McNally’s career has spanned 30 years and included assignments in over 50 countries. He has shot cover stories for TIME, Newsweek, Fortune, New York, Entertainment Weekly,The New York Times Sunday Magazine, and Men’s Journal. He has been at various times in his career a contract photographer for Sports Illustrated, a staff photographer at LIFE, and, currently, an ongoing 25-year contributor to the National Geographic, shooting numerous cover stories for those publications.

 

Joe McNally was listed by American Photo as one of the 100 Most Important People in Photography and described by the magazine as “perhaps the most versatile photojournalist working today”. He has been honored as a member of Kodak-PDN Legends Online, as well as being a Nikon Legend Behind the Lens.

 

In 2010, he was voted as one of the 30 most influential photographers of the decade in an industry wide Photo District News survey. McNally won the first Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Journalist Impact for a LIFE coverage titled, “The Panorama of War.” He has also been honored numerous times by Communication Arts, PDN, Graphis, American Photo, POY, and The World Press Photo Foundation.

He’s told Bill Gates what to do for an entire hour, appeared on The X Factor, exhibited at the Library of Congress, dined with the President, written an Amazon Best Seller, shared cupcakes with Anne Hathaway, and gotten drunk with George Clooney.

 

Brian Smith’’s iconic portraits of Hollywood’s A-List and Fortune’s 500 have graced the covers and pages of hundreds of magazines including Sports Illustrated, ESPN the Magazine, The New York Times Magazine, Time, People, Forbes, Billboard, Elle and GQ. His first magazine photograph appeared in LIFE Magazine  when he was a 20-year-old student at the University of Missouri. Five years later, Smith won the Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography.

Meet Olympus Photographer Larry C. Price

An Olympus Visionary since 2003, Larry C. Price is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist.

 

Price is currently working on long-term documentaries on child labor and the health effects of global pollution under grant funding by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting in Washington D.C. and works internationally for several global NGOs.

 

Over his storied career, Larry C. Price has worked for some of North America’s largest newspapers, including The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Baltimore Sun, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and The Denver Post.

 

As a photographer at The Star-Telegram, Larry won the 1981 Pulitzer Prize for spot news photography for his coverage of the 1980 coup in Liberia. He won a second Pulitzer Prize for feature photography in 1985 for The Philadelphia Inquirer with a portfolio documenting civil wars in Angola and El Salvador.

Meet Leica Photographer Craig Semetko

Craig Semetko spent much of his adult life as a professional comedy writer and performer before discovering photography as another means of storytelling. His comedic background has given him a highly developed sense of the absurd and ironic, resulting in a strong sense of humor throughout his work.

 

His first book, UNPOSED, was published by teNeues in 2010 with a foreword by legendary Magnum Photos photographer Elliott Erwitt. Erwitt calls the book a “minor miracle” and writes of Semetko, “…he is the essential photographer. That is, he sees what others cannot see.”

 

Semetko was one of 10 photographers chosen worldwide by Leica Camera AG to be a part of its “10×10” exhibition celebrating 100 years of Leica photography. He spent three months in the fall of 2013 traveling throughout India for the project and the resulting work was displayed at the 2014 grand opening of Leitz Park, the new Leica headquarters in Wetzlar, Germany. His second book, the international award winning INDIA UNPOSED was also born of this project, and was published in the spring of 2014.

 

Semetko has had numerous solo exhibitions worldwide and his prints hang in collections in the US, Europe, and Asia.  He regularly teaches Leica Akademie Master Classes around the globe and is happy to share some tips, techniques, and the stories behind his photographs in his interactive presentation.

Bobbi Lane is an award-winning commercial photographer specializing in creative portraits on location and in the studio. Lane’s multi-faceted approach to photography incorporates over 35 years of technical experience with innovative artistic interpretation. Lane shoots primarily people on location for editorial, corporate, and advertising accounts as well as photographing “real people” and travel for stock. As a dedicated photo educator, she brings insight and enthusiasm to her students in workshops held worldwide. Bobbi is known for teaching lighting techniques for portraits, both natural and strobe, and also for leading international photo travel workshops. Bobbi’s excellent rapport and communication with her students inspires and motivates, while her straight-forward teaching style reaches students of many different skill levels. At APA National’s 25th Anniversary, Bobbi was honored with a Special Recognition Award for Education.

The new mirrorless cameras are changing the approach to photography, formerly dominated by a reliance on a raw file workflow! Lee Varis presents a new digital capture workflow that leverages the strength of mirrorless cameras featuring the new Fuji X Pro-2.  During this session, Lee will demonstrate how to utilize the film simulation modes of the Fuji X Pro-2 camera for creative visualization, and shows how to eliminate the post processing back end almost entirely. If you are tired of working on the computer to prepare your images, you must see this presentation! Lee Varis is a photo-illustrator and master of post-processing techniques with over 40 years of commercial photography experience. His work has been featured on numerous movie posters, video box covers, CD covers,brochures and catalogs. He is responsible for the moth on the iconic “Silence of the Lambs” movie poster and was the photographer of the Starship Enterprise on most of the original Star Trek movie posters.

George D. Lepp’s passion for natural beauty and cutting-edge technology have lead him to become one of North America’s best-known contemporary outdoor and nature photographers. His beautiful and compelling images have appeared on the covers of many books and magazines including Natural History, Car and Driver,PC Photo and Outdoor Photographer.

 

Canon Explorer of Light George D. Lepp is widely recognized for his dedication to sharing his photographic and biological knowledge with other photographers through his seminars and writing. Lepp has taught at Photoshop World, Santa Fe Workshops, Palm Beach Workshops, and founded the Lepp Institute of Digital Imaging. He has also written numerous books including Wildlife Photography: Stories from the Field, Golden Poppies of California, and Beyond the Basics I and II: Innovative Techniques for Outdoor and Nature Photography.

 

He is a founding board member and fellow of the North American Nature Photographers Association and winner of many awards for his work, including Photo Media’s Photography Person of the Year and the prestigious Progress Award, the highest given by the Photographic Society of America.

Ron Magill has also been a regular guest on several Spanish language television programs including international hits “Sabado Gigante” and “Despierta America”.

 

In addition, he has written and produced many wildlife articles and award-winning photographs that have appeared in publications and galleries around the world. He has traveled extensively throughout Africa, India and Tropical America while developing and directing conservation projects and Emmy Award winning documentaries focusing on the wildlife of those regions.

Photographing snowboarders as a teenager is where it all began for Michael Muller. By 22 he had established himself as a leading entertainment and fashion photographer with an extensive celebrity clientele. Brad Pitt, Jeff Bridges and Scarlett Johansson are just a few of the subjects among the hundreds of celebrity portraits he has taken.

 

Michael has created images for numerous iconic movie posters including The Avengers,Guardians of The Galaxy, Spiderman, X-Men, Hancock, Iron Man and Captain America. He’s also worked on TV shows such as Sons of Anarchy and Entourage and shot album art for many musicians including Lil Wayne and documented Rihanna for her Unapologetic CD and has been shooting album artwork for most of his career.

 

Noted for his close-up underwater shark photography, Michael has spent the last decade inventing and patenting a studio lighting system which he takes underwater to light the sharks in ways never seen until now. This 10+ year effort has led to a coffee table book that was released by TASCHEN in April 2016. TASCHEN published a nearly 400 page full sized coffee table book of this work titled SHARKS.

Meet Tiffen cinematographer Dean Cundey, ASC – The Making of Jurassic Park: The Virtual Effects & its Impact on Today’s Sci-Fi Adventure Genre

 

Cundey first attracted widespread attention when he collaborated with John Carpenter on the production of Halloween (1978). The two filmmakers continued to work together on such memorable films as The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing, Halloween II and III, and Big Trouble in Little China.

 

For his work on Robert Zemeckis’ landmark, live-action film Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), Cundey garnered both Oscar and BAFTA nominations. Zemeckis and Cundey also teamed up on the beloved Back to the Future trilogy, Romancing the Stone, and Death Becomes Her. Cundey earned his first nomination from his peers at the ASC for Steven Spielberg’s Hook (1991), and a second one for his gripping imagery of Ron Howard’s Apollo 13 (1995). He also earned the Society of Operating Cameraman’s President’s Award in 1999.

 

Cundey’s credits also include such notable films as Jurassic Park, What Women Want, Garfield, The Holiday, The Spy Next Door, Jack and Jill, Crazy Kind of Love, and the upcoming releases Walking with the Enemy and Carry Me Home.

 

“Dean has continually raised the bar with his magnificent imagery, and I’m certain he will continue to do so for many years to come,” says ASC Awards Chairman Lowell Peterson. “He has compiled an incomparable body of work that has made a meaningful and indelible impression on the art of filmmaking.
